Christmas Trends

I am loving this season’s colour trends: all the greens! (Sage, holly, forest) Lavender inky blue, deep burgundy, and all the pinks.

It’s fun to be inspired by the latest trends as long as you don’t fall into the trap of thinking you need to get rid of everything and completely start again each year. Whether making a decoration or buying one new, think about how it will fit into what you already have and enhance your overall look.

My family has Scandinavian heritage, and so I’ve always been drawn to a Nordic style, with a core colour palette of red, white, and winter browns. Still, I love using lots of different colours and am confident in mixing and matching them. I will comfortably introduce pinks and greens alongside soft textures and sparkly finishes.

The preparations: getting ready for Christmas 2024

As Christmas 2024 draws near, the festive cheer is already in the air, with dazzling shop window displays, trending social media posts, and adverts showcasing this year’s must-have decorations and colour schemes.

Whether you’re decorating your first home or adding to your treasured collection of ornaments and traditions, a little planning can go a long way. Organising your decorations and prepping your space in advance will ensure a smoother, stress-free holiday season filled with joy.

My Top 7 Christmas Decorating Tips for 2024

  1. Play with Height for Visual Impact
Varying the heights of your decorations adds depth and perspective. For example, use taller candles, stacked books, or elevated ornaments to create an eye-catching scene that feels dynamic and inviting.

  2. Create Themed Spaces for Storytelling
Design areas within your home that tell a festive story. Gather winter animal figurines for a magical mantelpiece display, or combine seasonal foliage with different-height candles for a stunning table centrepiece.

  3. Mix Handmade with Store-Bought Decorations
Blend treasured homemade items with stylish store-bought pieces for a personal and unique look. This mix will keep cherished memories alive while embracing fresh trends.

  4. Go Big with Lights
Twinkling lights are a Christmas essential! Wrap them generously around your tree, drape them through houseplants, or string them along your walls to create a warm and festive atmosphere.

  5. Cosy Up with Candles
Scatter plenty of candles throughout your home for soft, flattering light and a snug, wintry feel. Opt for festive scents like cinnamon or pine for added charm.

  6. Add Texture and Natural Elements
Incorporate woollen ornaments, pinecones, or rustic wooden accents to bring softness and texture into your décor. These natural elements add warmth and an organic, timeless appeal.

  7. Store Decorations Safely
Protect delicate items by investing in sturdy, clear boxes with secure clip-on lids. Keeping decorations well-organised ensures they stay safe and ready for another magical Christmas next year.
